About Mr. Schuster

     Mr. Schuster is teaching in his 35th year here at Valley View. He comes from a musical family. Both his parents were respected music teachers in Northern California. He started his music training with his father on French Horn and added Trumpet in high school. He studied trumpet with Joe Alessi, Marvin Nelson and Peter Welker. Mr. Schuster completed his Bachelor in Music with honors from CSUN in 1983 where he also received the Outstanding Music Education Award. Mr. Schuster was voted Best Music Teacher in the Ventura County Star People's Choice Awards in 1995. He received the Lew Roth Teacher of the Year Award from the Simi Education Foundation in 2008. Mr. Schuster is the 2015 recipient of the "Outstanding Veteran Music Educator" award from the SCSBOA. He is the founder and director of the popular Simi Valley Summer Music Academy. He is often called upon as a Festival Adjudicator and Clinician with the Southern California School Band and Orchestra Association and Festivals in the Parks. He has mentored many student teachers from CSUN and California Lutheran University and has been a guest conductor with the Camarillo Community Band and at Cazadero Music Camp. He and his wife, Vicki, make their home in Simi Valley and have four grown children and one grandaughter.
