Student Electronic Device Policy

Class Chrome Books and Student Devices will be utilized frequently in this course.  Technology will be permitted in the classroom and used by teacher direction only, for things such as reading for AR, researching, creating multimedia projects, assignment completion, or studying stems.  Devices will only be used for relevant, classroom activities.  Students using devices inappropriately will lose the opportunity to use their electronic devices in class. Please see the following information provided to students the first week of school:



  • Parents are expected to agree to the Portable Device Guidelines and the Acceptable Use Policy on AERIES
  • Phones/E-readers/Chromebooks may be used to connect to the internet for relevant classroom activities, assignments, STEMS work, research, or finding an AR book
  • Phones/E-readers/Chromebooks may be used to read for AR or academic-related Apps such as stems


  • Phones/E-readers/Chromebooks will not be used to text, email, or photograph for personal and/or social reasons during class
  • Phones/E-readers/Chromebooks will be used responsibly
  • Phones/E-readers/Chromebooks will be used at times and for purposes directed by the teacher
  • Phones/E-readers/Chromebooks must be placed flat on your desk and not held in an upright position


  • 1st offense= warning
  • 2nd offense= teacher turns student device securely into the main office & parent must pick up the phone from school
  • 3rd offense= student is no longer allowed to use any mobile device in class

Film Class Info

English 8 Film is an 8th grade course which teaches the Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts with an emphasis in film.  All grade-level assessments will be consistent school-wide.  All required texts will be read, and each of the required writing applications will be addressed, in addition to the Language, Speaking, and Listening skills.  This course will be different through using film and film clips incorporated into the units, lessons, and assignments.  Film and film clips will be used in instruction, student practice, research and assignments.  Film techniques and terminology will be taught and used throughout the year as well.
